Beer Bottle Cap Earrings
I always saw these at craft fairs and gift shops and thought, “I could make those”. Usually the reality is that when I think something looks easy or that I could replicate it with no problem, it is much much harder than it looks and I fail miserably. However, I think that I was able to create a pretty good product with the bonus of getting to be a walking advertisement for my favorite alcoholic beverages.
Full disclosure: I no longer drink most beer due to an allergy so my husband was forced to help with the consumption-related work.
What you need: bottle caps, earring hooks, jump rings, head pins, craft pliers, hammer, small nail, beads, sealer.
Step One: consider how many pairs of earring you want to make. Look for beer with cool bottle caps and consume twice as many bottles of beer as you want pairs of earring. (possibly drink extra in case you make mistakes during the crafting process)
Step Two: select two match bottle caps. Paint the backs of the bottle caps with an acrylic paint of your choosing.
Step Three: using a sharpie make a small dot at the point where you want the top of your earring to be and where the hole will go, making sure it is in the same place on each bottle cap.
Step Four: place bottle caps on a sturdy surface. Put the head of the nail where you have made your small dot and hammer nail until it breaks through the surface and creates a hole. Put head pins through each hole so that the head of the pin is on the front of the bottle cap, then bend head pin so that it lays straight above the bottle cap.
Step Five: if you so choose; add beads to the head pin, then using your craft pliers bend the end of the pin so that it creates a loop.
Step Six: open up a jump ring and use it to attach the head pin loop to the earring hook.
Step Seven: if desired, seal the bottle cap using a craft sealer. Let dry, then they are ready to wear or gift!
